To purchase a herd of goats

In Sudan and Bangladesh a goat can be a lifesaver, providing enough milk to keep the whole family healthy. Goats can also be bred and sold, allowing poor parents to generate income to pay for food, education and vital medicines for their children.

The Quest Swimming Club

Run by Doreen Alcock, the winner of the ‘Unsung Sportsperson of the Year’ on BBC . Doreen believes that all children should be able to swim and charges £1.50 per lesson, she is finding, in these difficult times that the swimming lessons are the first thing to go.
The club supported Quest, to enable children with few resources, to continue to learn to swim.

The Gambian School Trust

was formed after Hilary & Steve Lawther from Bradford spent their annual holiday in Banjol, the capital.
They established a much needed school, funded , initially their own resources. More establishments have been built since that time..
One of the most prized possessions students desire is to own a book.
Every pupil eagerly awaits Christmas and a present of a book; hence Books for Gambia which we supported with several hundred books in time for last Christmas.

PDSA – The Veterinary Charity

Taking the financial stresses away from disadvantaged pet owners who simply cannot afford private veterinary fees, such as those who are living within a strict pension or are on benefits, enables our clients to spend more time enjoying the company of their pets. Research has shown that this in turn can help to improve the health of the pet owner. The Milton Keynes PetAid Practice is one of our newest establishments having opened in September 2006. The practice is proving to be a huge success. This is a much-needed free service to the people and pets of Bletchley.

 Orchard House

In Wolverton, this council run facility is for elderly residents and those needing intermediate care. There is an enclosed garden, which was in the distant past landscaped, but has lacked care for sometime. In conjunction with the other Milton Keynes Lions Clubs we have cleaned up, trimmed and planted bulbs and winter pansies. This is an ongoing project.

LIBRA (Lions International Blood Research Appeal)

LIBRA was founded in 1976. In 1978 a charitable trust was set up to provide laboratory space and equipment at Kings College Hospital in London for research into and treatment of leukaemia, haemophilia and sickle cell disease. A new laboratory, which will be a global centre of excellence dedicated to developments in the field of stem cell research, is being built by the hospital and should be ready for use early 2012. LIBRA has set itself a target to provide £249,000 for essential research equipment for that laboratory.

Caton House Residential Home Bulb Planting

This was an initiative from our late friend,Lion Louvain who purchased the bulbs and the containers. She then planted them up but was unable to deliver them to Caton House due to her illness. Whilst she was in hospital, Lion Martin Chapman was able to take the containers to Caton House where they were suitably positioned for maximum viewing by the residents.

This year we have provided a small greenhouse and vegetables so that the residents can be "organic".

MK Hospital Childrens A&E waiting area

When the hospital created space for a dedicated waiting room in A&E for children to protect them from some of the sights in the adult area, Lions were quickly involved providing books and subsequently, with the generous support of IKEA, lamps, an easel and shelves. This continues our support of the hospital.
